"The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to
choose one thought over another.
 ~William James
Dear Susan,
I've been called a control freak many times in my life, and of course it was always with the intention that being like that was a bad thing. I acknowledge there are many times in our lives when the best thing we can do is just let it go or let it be, and I have become fairly skilled at knowing when to do that.
But I do believe one area we need to have control over is our mental state. Our stress levels are worse when we feel we have no control, and we know that being in a state of stress or stuffing our emotions can lead to illness, both physical and mental. We operate from our highest self when we choose to not let situations or people dictate our reactions and actions.
So I say let's take back control! Let's choose to keep a toolkit handy of the things we can do to feel better and stay present during those stressful times. Maybe that's a breathing technique (remember the tip about breathing in something you want more of and breathing out something you want to release?) or a mantra you like to repeat. (Here's a great one to regain your self-confidence: "I am strong, able and calm.") Maybe it's something physical like taking a walk or doing twenty jumping jacks. All of these can help us feel better and bring us back to a state of being in control.
If you'd like to learn more tips and techniques for your own personal toolkit, join me for the Instant Meditations workshop on March 14. And I'd love to hear from you if you have something you do that brings you back into the moment, calms you down and helps you feel in control again. It's a great place to be!
With gratitude,

Instant Meditations: Techniques for Finding Peace on the Go
with Sue Opeka

 Thursday, March 14  7:00 p.m.

Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.
Many of us struggle to maintain an ongoing meditation practice, believing we can only achieve a feeling of calm by sitting for 20 or more minutes a day. While regular meditation can indeed change your life, it can also seem intimidating and mysterious and one of those things we wait to start until we have the time. Does this mean you can't find those same feelings of peace throughout your day unless you "commit to sit?" No. There are simple tools you can use that can have a big impact on how you stay in touch with your inner self and relate positively to those around you . . .
Creative Manifestation
with Chris Moses
Tuesday, March 19  7:00 p.m.
Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.

"When conditions are sufficient, there is a manifestation." - Thich Nhat Hanh

Spring is the perfect time to create new intentions. You may have heard the saying "form follows thought", but how do we get there? Manifesting your desires is not only about "wanting", it's important to create the conditions for receiving. Just as you wouldn't job search without a resume, you wouldn't attempt to manifest your desires without the action steps needed to get there.  In this workshop, we will uncover the conditions that nourish your daily life . . . Creative Manifestation

The Ch'i of Body and Place:
Feng Shui and the Chakras
With B.J. Gorman
Wednesday, March 20  7:00 p.m.
Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.
$35.00; $30.00 if purchased by March 6th

There is a direct connection between the spaces we live in and the quality of our lives. There is also a connection between the Bagua Map in Feng Shui and our body's energetic Chakra system. Our Chakra system parallels and carries our cultural core philosophical beliefs which are reflected in our environment. The spaces in which we spend the most time, our home and workplace, mirror what is going on inside of us ("the walls talk"). Just as you can use the material world to access the invisible energetic world, you can also use Feng Shui to support you as you effect growth and change in your life. This workshop will take you on a soul journey through the Bagua Map, connecting your Chakra energies to their power places in your home. Referencing Caroline Myss' book Anatomy of the Spirit, B.J. will also demonstrate how your Chakras pulsate . . . Chakras

What I Want You to Know About Me...
I am convinced that within each of us is the ability to heal from painful emotional symptoms and to live a well balanced, fulfilling life....a peaceful and happy life. I know that coming to counseling can lead to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reduction in feelings of distress. This I have learned from working for over 20 years in both the business world and professional counseling psychology.

What I Want You to Know About Me... Sharing this part of myself with you is what makes my heart sing. My present journey began at an early age and the pathways to this point have had a profound impact. There is no doubt there are signposts along the way that help show direction. It is my honor to work with you and introduce you to your most authentic self.

Rebecca, please describe Your Services"I work as an Intuitive and/or Psychic and Medium. The words Intuitive and Psychic are the same thing. The word psychic is a beautiful word that means "of the soul." Intuition is a word we often use to feel and hear our inner voice, our higher self or soul. We get these "messages" in many ways. Working as a Medium can pertain to someone who has passed or even someone here now that may come in energetically. Other services include looking at your energy body to determine where any dysfunction might be that may be causing health issues, mentoring and coaching, inspirational speaking to any size group, and space clearing for your personal space or business."

Can you describe a typical session? "Sessions for readings can be in an email, over the phone, and in person. We are energy beings so vibration works everywhere! I do prepare ahead with meditation and intention and will usually begin by discussing what comes in from Spirit. We then work together in a relaxed, conversational approach sometimes using questions and answers to key in to the parts that are most important at this time. While I may close my eyes to "see", and might hold an important crystal, most find that this is an easy experience full of light and love. Additional tools like astrology, numerology, oracle cards and energy healing may be part of the session as well. We can all have a well-stocked spiritual tool kit if we just let go and surround ourselves with divine inspiration."

What are the benefits /results people often experience? "I love leaving the spark of wonder in my clients. Allowing them to see life and situations through new eyes. They often seem happier, more interested in the present moment, and more compassionate as they see their part in the journey and begin to see the roadmaps that have led them to this point. I also want them to know that the gifts of intuition are available to all. We are all magnificent and worthy."
What makes you different/good at what you do? "I am walking the walk and trip every so often just like everyone else. Life is not always easy and I love the human spirit, the differences in each of us. I also like to allow my clients to see that I am no different from them. I am simply an intuitive counselor and guide."
Describe your style or approach: "Relaxed, joyous and conversational."
What is your Education and Training? "I have studied and trained for over 25 years with Sonia Choquette, PhD who is an amazing psychic, vibrational healer, international speaker, teacher, and the author of many books. It is through her nurturing and guidance that the road opened and there was no turning back.  I am a certified Level 3 Six Sensory Leader and Teacher. I am also certified as a Level II Angelic Reiki healer with Debbie Clayton from the UK. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with an emphasis on public speaking, theatre and secondary education. My journey has also happily included marriage, motherhood, and medical sales among other things that have provided messages and inspiration along the way."

What are your fees?  "$30 email readings and 20-minute phone sessions; $50 ½ hour phone or in person sessions; $100 1 hour phone or in person sessions; See my website for additional information. Special circumstances may require special pricing."

The mission of The Present Moment is to bring inspiration to both individuals and the community. One of the ways I do this is by running a number of groups with the intention of helping people move forward towards excellence in any endeavor, personal or professional.

ISC Inspired Success Circles

"Where two or more are gathered, grace rushes in with twinkling eyes. Your dream deserves a stimulating network of people who each bring different gifts, experience, and resources to the table." ~Tama Kieves

Calling all artists, entrepreneurs, visionaries, career-changers, and freedom junkies! There is another way to work and live. Join us to support and champion each other in creating and wildly succeeding in our life's work!

Based on Tama Kieves' best-selling book Inspired & Unstoppable: Wildly Succeeding in Your Life's Work!, Inspired Success Circles are for people who are discovering their passion and authentic desires, and for those who are already doing what they love or expressing their creativity but want to take that success to the next level. If you want to gather with others to discuss how to follow your true desire or calling and take inspired action to move forward, then this group is for you.

The process is fun and simple and involves using Tama's book as the basis for the discussion. Groups will meet at the following locations and times. No reservations are necessary - just drop in! The cost of a meeting is $10.00 and you can attend as many meetings as you'd like during the month. New locations will be added in the coming months.

Pivot Teams are essentially mini-Mastermind groups, where people come together for just three meetings to brainstorm and grow an idea or discuss an issue. These are especially helpful for people who want access to a group of peers for a short period of time, and can then move forward with their idea. Click here to learn more and download an application.  Pivot Teams

Momentum Groups (TM)

As a private practitioner, solo professional or small business owner do you ever feel somewhat alone and a little bit confused on what to do next? Are you reliant on yourself for ideas and do you feel you waste time trying to figure things out by yourself? Now you don't have to walk this journey alone. I am forming Mastermind groups, called Momentum Groups (TM) to help you move beyond your own limited view of what's possible. Imagine having 4-5 people you meet with twice a month for the purpose of problem-solving, brainstorming, encouraging, and motivating each other. By becoming a member of one of these groups, you get to hang out with others who are all working to reach a common goal: to have a profitable, rewarding and fun business that feeds your soul and helps others as well. Details

One group is already full but others are still forming. If you are interested in learning more about these groups, please send an email to me at Sue Opeka and I will send you additional information and an application.

The Present Moment offers you two opportunities to get involved and live inspired. The first is through our Pay It Forward Kindness Program for Girls.
This program is loosely based on ideas drawn from Catherine Ryan Hyde's best-selling book, Pay It Forward. In our program, girls receive three charms and a card for recording their experiences. I ask them to look for opportunities to perform three acts of kindness to other girls. Each time they do, they give one of the charms to the recipient of their action, and ask that person to perform their own act of kindness and pass along the charm. This is a great activity for Girl Scout groups, church groups, sports teams, and any other group, as well as for individuals. Pay It Forward kits are available for $3.00 each. Click this link to find out how to participate. KindnessProgram
The second way for you to live inspired and bring inspiration to others is by conducting your own Inspiration Experiment. Try this...go about your day intending to inspire at least one person. (Inspire means "to influence, move or guide as if by divine inspiration.") You may like it so much that you make it a daily ritual. Remember, if you do something for 21 days in a row it becomes a habit. Wouldn't this be a great habit for all of us to adopt? I'd love to hear your stories of how you inspired someone or how you are feeling as you consciously test this out. You can email me at Sue Opeka. There is a Face Book page called "The Inspiration Experiment" where I post your stories - with your permission and anonymously, of course - and you can post there as well. Just go to The Inspiration Experiment on Facebook to read the stories of what others have already done. And don't forget to like us once you're there!
