"Immensely grateful, touched, proud, astonished, abashed."

~ Boris Pasternak (Nobel prize winner for Literature)

Dear Susan,
Grateful, greatful, gratefull - no, this note isn't about misspellings. It's about three kinds of gratitude, all of which lead to the same result.
When we are grateful,
we are feeling deep appreciation for a benefit or kindness we've received. For example, I am grateful to the Lake County After School Coalition for recently taking an interest in the Pay It Forward program and considering its use as a tool to combat bullying. Thank you.
Being greatful
means our appreciation is great. Do we have different degrees of appreciation? I'm not sure. I walk around all day saying "thank you" to the Universe for the small things that happen (good or bad). But I have to admit there are times when I say, "WOW! Thank you!" and feel greater appreciation for something.
For instance, I am very greatful to all of the artisans who have agreed to be a part of the Unique Boutique on April 20. Some of them had to make a choice between my show and other shows, and I am so appreciative of them signing on to be a part of a largely untried event that was another one of my "shower thoughts." I'm also grateful that so many of you have told me you are looking forward to this event. All of that combined gives me a wonderful knowing that it's going to be a lot of fun and a success for everyone.
And what about being gratefull?
Have you ever witnessed a beautiful sunset and felt like you were overflowing with feeling? That, to me, is what being gratefull is all about; when there are almost no words - just big, huge awe or a feeling almost like disbelief that you've been able to be a part of something so spectacular. Some would say the birth of a child is a gratefull moment. Or on the other extreme, I had a gratefull moment the night my mom died - but that's a story for another email.
Finally, I believe being grateful is as much about giving as it is receiving.  I know many of you had issues with the Google Checkout process while trying to buy your tickets last week to see Dr. Darren Weissman on May 9. Our research shows that it's on Google's end but I apologize for the frustrating experience you may have had. I'm going to keep the ticket price at $32.00 through April 15. Please let me know if you continue to have problems while trying to purchase tickets and remember that you can always contact me for check mailing instructions. (Don't give up!)
So whether you feel grateful, greatful or greatfull, it's all good! Sometimes it's good to notice the intensity of our feelings so that we never take gratitude for granted.
With gratitude and greatitude (hey, new word!),

It's Not Always Easy:
Nurturing Mother-Daughter Connections
(A workshop for Mothers and Middle-School Daughters)
With Lauren Bondy and Karen Jacobson
(Founders of Parenting Perspectives)
Karen Lauren
Sunday, April 14  2:00 p.m.
Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.
$40.00 (per Mother-Daughter team)

This 90-minute workshop offers mothers and daughters a unique opportunity to interact, have fun and learn from each other as they explore some of the challenges girls and women face in today's world. During the middle school years, girls and mothers' relationships shift as girls begin their journey to new independence. This can be both a rewarding and challenging time for both. Although it is not always obvious, girls need and want a connection with their mothers. It is not inevitable that mothers and daughters will be at "war" with one another. . . It's Not Always Easy Details (Note: Attendance is limited and only a few seats remain.)

Messages for You

Handling Life's Transitions with Ease and Grace
With Megan Walls
Sunday, April 28  2:00 p.m.
Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.

Life is full of transitions and we've all experienced our share -- becoming an empty nester, getting married, losing or changing your job, death of a loved one, relocating, divorce.. . .

And even though we know change is a constant in our lives, we're often not ready or prepared for it causing our emotions to get the best of us. When overwhelm, fear, resentment, powerlessness, resistance or hopelessness takes over, the change becomes even harder and paralysis can set in. Too bad life doesn't come with a manual on change to prepare us! Life's Transitions Details

What I Want You to Know About Me... Knowing that there is spiritual solution to all of life's challenges, I am dedicated to revealing those solutions through meditation, visioning, counseling and more.  My life has expanded and grown through these practices and I am passionate about sharing them. Change your thinking and your life will change.

Joan, please describe your services"I work with individuals & organizations interested in a deeper understanding of who they are and what they are here to be/do. I do this through teaching classes and workshops and through private counseling."

Can you describe a typical session? "A typical counseling session lasts about an hour and includes spiritual practice. I start with a centering prayer or brief time of stillness and then dive into deep conversation around what is showing up for the person I am with. It is from a place of deep listening to the person & Spirit that I am guided how to proceed as far as spiritual practice and questions. I generally recommend some type of practice as "homework" before closing the session with prayer or stillness."

What are the benefits /results people often experience? "People will feel heard, loved and honored as a result of experiencing a session. They will also have a deeper understanding of themselves and a clearer direction of where/what they are moving towards."
What makes you different/good at what you do? "I am able to listen and truly hear people without judgment. As I sit with someone, I see the Truth of his or her wholeness and oneness with all life no matter what is currently going on in form. This creates a rapport and feeling of safety that enables people to be authentic thus opening the possibility for transformation."
Describe your style or approach: "My style is loving, gentle and supportive. I create the space within a session for Spirit to guide and I simply listen and follow the guidance."
What is your Education and Training? "Four years of classes at Bodhi Spiritual Center in Chicago which included 2 years of training specifically for teaching & counseling.  Bodhi is part of a global organization called Centers for Spiritual Living and I am licensed through that organization and Bodhi.  After classwork, I completed a written exam & oral panel.  I am reviewed and re-licensed every 2 years."

What are your fees?  "$80 per session."

The mission of The Present Moment is to bring inspiration to both individuals and the community. One of the ways I do this is by running a number of groups with the intention of helping people move forward towards excellence in any endeavor, personal or professional.

ISC Inspired Success Circles

"Where two or more are gathered, grace rushes in with twinkling eyes. Your dream deserves a stimulating network of people who each bring different gifts, experience, and resources to the table." ~Tama Kieves

Calling all artists, entrepreneurs, visionaries, career-changers, and freedom junkies! There is another way to work and live. Join us to support and champion each other in creating and wildly succeeding in our life's work!

Based on Tama Kieves' best-selling book Inspired & Unstoppable: Wildly Succeeding in Your Life's Work!, Inspired Success Circles are for people who are discovering their passion and authentic desires, and for those who are already doing what they love or expressing their creativity but want to take that success to the next level. It's about gathering with others to talk about what ignites your passion and also being in community with kindred spirits who listen and support your desires.

The process is fun and simple and involves using Tama's book as the basis for the discussion. Groups will meet at the following locations and times. No reservations are necessary - just drop in! The cost of a meeting is $10.00 and you can attend as many meetings as you'd like during the month. New locations will be added in the coming months.

Pivot Teams are essentially mini-Mastermind groups, where people come together for just three meetings to brainstorm and grow an idea or discuss an issue. These are especially helpful for people who want access to a group of peers for a short period of time, and can then move forward with their idea. Click here to learn more and download an application.  Pivot Teams

Momentum Groups (TM)

As a private practitioner, solo professional or small business owner do you ever feel somewhat alone and a little bit confused on what to do next? Are you reliant on yourself for ideas and do you feel you waste time trying to figure things out by yourself? Now you don't have to walk this journey alone. I am forming Mastermind groups, called Momentum Groups (TM) to help you move beyond your own limited view of what's possible. Imagine having 4-5 people you meet with twice a month for the purpose of problem-solving, brainstorming, encouraging, and motivating each other. By becoming a member of one of these groups, you get to hang out with others who are all working to reach a common goal: to have a profitable, rewarding and fun business that feeds your soul and helps others as well. Details

The Present Moment offers you two opportunities to get involved and live inspired. The first is through our Pay It Forward Kindness Program for Girls.
This program is loosely based on ideas drawn from Catherine Ryan Hyde's best-selling book, Pay It Forward. In our program, girls receive three charms and a card for recording their experiences. I ask them to look for opportunities to perform three acts of kindness to other girls. Each time they do, they give one of the charms to the recipient of their action, and ask that person to perform their own act of kindness and pass along the charm. This is a great activity for Girl Scout groups, church groups, sports teams, and any other group, as well as for individuals. Pay It Forward kits are available for $3.00 each. Click this link to find out how to participate. KindnessProgram
The second way for you to live inspired and bring inspiration to others is by conducting your own Inspiration Experiment. Try this...go about your day intending to inspire at least one person. (Inspire means "to influence, move or guide as if by divine inspiration.") You may like it so much that you make it a daily ritual. Remember, if you do something for 21 days in a row it becomes a habit. Wouldn't this be a great habit for all of us to adopt? I'd love to hear your stories of how you inspired someone or how you are feeling as you consciously test this out. You can email me at Sue Opeka. There is a Face Book page called "The Inspiration Experiment" where I post your stories - with your permission and anonymously, of course - and you can post there as well. Just go to The Inspiration Experiment on Facebook to read the stories of what others have already done. And don't forget to like us once you're there! If you'd like to read the full story of how The Inspiration Experiment came to be, just click here. Thoughts From Sue
